Jackets for Juniors
In case you haven’t noticed, it’s getting cold out there, and those 30- and 40-degree mornings are chilling reminders that Floridians can’t wear T-shirts and sandals all year. Sadly, there are many children in struggling and disadvantaged families throughout Southwest Florida who have no warm clothes to wear when the temperature drops and the wind picks up.
Enter Jackets for Juniors, a nonprofit organization in Fort Myers that is dedicated to keeping children warm through the winter. Started by one industrious woman who recognized a need in her community, Jackets for Juniors hosts annual clothing drives and distributes new or gently used winter clothes to local kids who otherwise wouldn’t have them.
Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner, Attorneys for the Injured, recognized this as an important cause and quickly became a supporter of the annual events as a sponsor and donor. This year was no different, as the Firm’s Community Outreach Project donated brand-new blankets, jackets, and coats to Jackets for Juniors in early December. The main event, sponsored in part by Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner, took place on December 6 at Gulf Coast Church of Christ and was a huge success. The turnout was impressive, and many kids went home warm, toasty, and ready for the cold months to come!
