The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety continues to conduct an annual Traffic Safety Culture Index that suggests most drivers think the other guy is at fault.

• Half of Americans have been in a serious accident or have a family member of close friend who has been in a serious crash.
• More than half feel less safe than five years ago – driver distraction is the primary reason.
• More than two-thirds of drivers report talking on their cell phone while driving in the last month. Most view text messaging while driving as a serious safety threat – yet 25 percent admit to doing so.
• Nearly half of all drivers admit to speeding by more than 15 mph in the last month – about one-third believe it is acceptable.
• Two-third report feeling occasionally pressured to drive faster by other drivers.
• One-third of drivers admit to running a red light in the last month.
