Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner to Honor Outstanding Student Volunteers
Make a Difference Awards highlight extraordinary community service.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 24, 2019) – Helping cancer patients, speaking up about water issues, and delivering care packages to law enforcement officers are just a few of the ways Southwest Florida children are making a difference. Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner, Attorneys for the Injured, will recognize these efforts at its annual Make a Difference Awards ceremony on April 28 at The Forest Country Club.
Middle and high school students from Lee, Collier, Charlotte and Hendry counties were invited to take part in the competitive honor program. The grand prize is $1,000, with $250 going to the most deserving student from each high school with at least three applicants and $100 going to the most deserving student from each middle school with at least three applicants.
Students considered for the award must have extraordinary experience volunteering or engaging in community projects that make a difference in the lives of others.
“Kids are doing some truly amazing work in our community, and our goal is to commend them for their efforts and encourage others to follow their example,” Trial Attorney P.J. Scheiner said. “They’re constantly finding new ways to have a positive impact on the world around them.”
Last year’s grand prize winner, Angelena Rios of Island Coast High School, started a program to provide support, encouragement and practical help to families of breast cancer patients. Other past winners have defended the rights of migrant farm workers, replanted mangroves in our local estuaries, and made teddy bears for the children of fallen law enforcement officers.
The firm judges student essays of 300 words or more describing their efforts. To win, students must be on track to graduate in good academic standing.
