Aggressive Driving / Road Rage Accidents
We all have a picture in our mind of road rage – you have likely even been in the awkward position of avoiding eye contact with an irate driver at some point in your driving career. Yet our Fort Myers car accident attorneys know that people too often take a do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do attitude toward aggressive driving.
Tailgating. Speeding. Weaving in and out of traffic. Failure to use your turn signal. These are all common forms of aggressive driving that can lead to a serious or fatal car accident.
Consulting an experienced trial lawyer in Cape Coral or elsewhere in Southwest Florida is an important step after an accident. At Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner, Attorneys for the Injured, we have spent decades representing accident victims who have been injured or killed by the negligent acts of at-fault drivers.
Proving all of the facts and circumstances surrounding your accident takes an experienced law firm with the support staff and resources necessary to prove your case. Putting the at-fault driver’s insurance company in a position of paying a claim to avoid a trial can have a dramatic impact on the outcome of your case.
Road rage differs from aggressive driving in that it is usually typified by an incident that escalates into a criminal offense, such as assault. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration suggests the following steps for staying safe when confronted by an aggressive driver:
- Get out of the way: Don’t attempt to hold your own.
- Put your Pride Aside: Do not challenge them by weaving, speeding or making other moves of counter aggression.
- Avoid Eye Contact: Which can enrage an aggressive driver.
- Gestures: Ignore them and don’t return them.
- Make a report: Pull over to a safe place and call police.
At Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner, Attorneys for the Injured, we are committed to representing the victims in all types of accident cases and have the knowledge, experience and resources necessary to pursue the maximum compensation available to you under the law. If you have been in an accident with an aggressive driver or have been the victim of road rage, call today for a free and confidential appointment. And remember: There are never any fees or costs unless we win.

Dangerous Driving Behavior
The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety continues to conduct an annual Traffic Safety Culture Index that suggests most drivers think the other guy is at fault.
- Half of Americans have been in a serious accident or have a family member of close friend who has been in a serious crash.
- More than half feel less safe than five years ago – driver distraction is the primary reason.
- More than two-thirds of drivers report talking on their cell phone while driving in the last month. Most view text messaging while driving as a serious safety threat – yet 25 percent admit to doing so.
- Nearly half of all drivers admit to speeding by more than 15 mph in the last month – about one-third believe it is acceptable.
- Two-third report feeling occasionally pressured to drive faster by other drivers.
- One-third of drivers admit to running a red light in the last month.
