Annual Make a Difference Awards Honor Students Who Serve the Community
Applications now being accepted at schools across Southwest Florida.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2018) – Service to the Southwest Florida community is at the very core of Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner, Attorneys for the Injured. So many of the area’s schoolchildren embrace and embody this same value, and the firm’s annual Make a Difference Awards are back again this year to encourage and reward their efforts.
“We are so proud to recognize young men and women who embrace the mission of making a difference in their community,” Trial Attorney Preston J. Scheiner said.
Past recipients of the recognition and financial award have engaged in a diverse array of community service activities, from making teddy bears for the children of fallen law-enforcement officers from the duty uniforms of the officers to defending the rights of migrant farm workers and replanting mangroves in our local estuaries.
Middle and high school students from Lee, Collier, Charlotte and Hendry counties are invited to take part in the competitive honor program. The grand prize is $1,000, with $250 going to the most deserving student from each school that has at least three applicants. Students considered for the award must have extraordinary experience volunteering or engaging in community projects that make a difference in the lives of others.
A completed application and an essay of 300 words or more that describes the student’s work to help others in the community are required. Applications are distributed through schools and are available by emailing Karen Mayo at kma@blslawyers.com. The applications will also be posted at www.blslawyers.com. The deadline to apply is March 30, and an awards ceremony will be scheduled to recognize the award recipients.
