Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner Rewards Students Who Help Others
Grand prize winner volunteers in hospital, assists special-needs children.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 15, 2019) – From anguish came inspiration. Gulf Coast High School senior Hailey Mathieu’s mother was near death when a doctor’s meticulous search uncovered the cause of her affliction, setting her on the path to recovery. The experience led Mathieu to dedicate herself to serving others, and her charitable endeavors prompted Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner, Attorneys for the Injured to name her the $1,250 grand prize winner at the firm’s Make a Difference Awards ceremony on April 28 at The Forest Country Club.
The firm founded the awards more than 20 years ago to recognize middle and high school students in Southwest Florida who perform outstanding community service. Winners were invited to a reception featuring the Hon. Circuit Judge Robert Branning, who spoke on service above self.
“What Hailey has accomplished for people in need is absolutely amazing, and I am thrilled to see her pursue her dream of becoming a doctor and providing even more profoundly impactful assistance,” Trial Attorney P.J. Scheiner said. “Students like her are doing amazing work here in Southwest Florida, and they deserve to be recognized.”
After her mother’s doctor made his discovery, Mathieu worked at a camp for children with special needs, sparking her desire to advocate for special-needs children as a developmental-behavioral pediatrician. She’s spent over 380 hours volunteering hands-on in the medical field through the VolunTeen Program at Naples Community Hospital. She also founded a Red Cross Club at school and fostered a partnership between the American Red Cross and NCH to teach water safety to children.
Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner awarded $250 to 15 other high schoolers and $100 to seven middle schoolers, all in honor of their extraordinary volunteer efforts and engagement in community projects that make a difference in the lives of others.
